Mc Kinney and Nader Appear to Be Sharing A Lot More Than a Party
Cynthia McKinney has announced...wait, wait, wait....hold your breath...that she will announce her decision to accept a run for the Presidency on the Green Party ballot sometime in November. Both she and Ralph Nader, seem to be sharing a lot lately. They are both:
While coy about declaring, they are both pumped up to fight. This week, Nader took aim and sued the DNC and others for conspiracy to keep him off the ballot in 18 states in 2004. His attorney said, ''This is a case designed to make sure other independent and third party candidates will not be subject to the same kind of conspiracy in the future.'' McKinney is part of a Human Rights Suit against President Bush and Vice-President Cheney.
However, for the grassroots candidates for whom issues, not notoriety have vaulted them into this primary race, the inclusion of these larger names will make their own campaigns more difficult as money and labor resources go to the nationally recognized candidates instead of to them.
Acting coy in politics is nothing new and yet is SO ironic. Look how long it took Fred Thompson to jump in. And for all those hoping that Gore will fall in line, one rumor has him announcing after Nov. 7 (the rumor does not cite what year). However, to be able to stick out a run for the Presidency, you've got to have a really strong ego and an uncommon acceptance/desire to be a public personna, not to mention financial resources. It is not an undertaking for the shy.
While the two larger names are out blocking punches, grassroots candidates Kat Swift, Jared Ball and Kent Mesplay amongst others, have said they hope to have a fun experience with the great results of growing the size and visibility of the Green Party, vocalizing social and environmental concerns, and gaining more ballot lines.

Former Congresswoman Considers Run for President on Green Party Ballot
Coming fresh from dismissing her self from the Dems, Cynthia McKinney registered as a Green in California on Thursday night amidst an enthusiastic crowd. Speculation about her running as a Green Party nominee for President in California is almost at an end. The follwing night in Berkeley, Mc Kinney said, "I've got my running shoes on."
Imagine a debate between third party alternatives: Mc Kinney and Ralph Nader as the big names - and 4 stand-out green candidates for President: Jared Ball, Jesse Johnson, Kent Mesplay, and Kat Swift, who are doing the work necessary to get on the ballot.
Of course, McKinney would be asked why, after two days, she rescinded her acceptance to run on the Green Party primary ballot in California. Nader might be asked why he failed to declare himself a Green, not to mention a candidate. The grassroots candidates, each from different regions, also present a variety of faces and issues important to bring into the conversation. You ask tough questions. Let them make their cases. It would be great.
Additionally, this debate is broadcast - live and delayed - in a variety of ways.

How Mc Kinney's leaving the Green Party Courtship Affects the Election Landscape
Why former Congresswoman Cynthia Mc Kinney dropped her courtship with the Green Party remains unanswered. Some speculate that while California Greens, the largest delegation, looked forward to an exciting challenged primary as a boon to the party, McKinney saw it as a lack of endorsement and she is unwilling to navigate an unfinanced campaign. She is still recovering from her unsuccessful 2006 run for Congress in Georgia, a seat she previously held.
Still, a strong measure of the Green Party membership continues to court her and raise money for her campaign.
Adored by some and ridiculed by others, Cynthia is seen as a double-edged sword. For months However, an ardent group of Greens are sure that Mc Kinney can face this next election with the kind of electricity and persistence that allowed her to step up in Congress and question Rumsfeld about the Iraq War, which no other Democrat had been willing to do.

Polidoc Crew Rides into Reading
We're at the Greens National Convention where a revitalized progressive community has gathered to discuss strategic approaches to the upcoming elections, regional and national.
Today, declared candidates will meet the press and we'll be there to see them and also to see how much the media cares at this point. With the whole nation being greenwashed, will the press understand that the Greens are a political power? Stay tuned. More to come.

Well this is good news for those of us who are looking for a moment of levity in this chaotic time. It's certainly a comment on how the early campaigning of the two major party candidates is monopolozing the conversation. The Daily Report is still the one thing I desperately need to revive the humor of life (read "sanity").
